Congratulations to our 2011 Democratic nominees and endorsees for Fairfax County offices:

Sharon Bulova - Chair, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors (incumbent)

Ray Morrogh - Commonwealth's Attorney (incumbent)

Stan Barry - Sheriff (incumbent)

John Wittman - School Board, Springfield District

Ilryong Moon - School Board, at large (incumbent)

Ted Velkoff - School Board, at large

Ryan McIlveen - School Board, at large

Johna Good Gagnon - Soil & Water Conservation Board

George Lamb - Soil & Water Conservation Board

We will not have a Democratic nominee in the 40th House district, but an Independent candidate will be running in that race. We will not have a Democratic candidate for the Springfield District Board of Supervisors seat.

The state legislative candidates, Bulova, Morrogh, and Barry were the only Democratic candidates to file properly for those seats by the filing deadline, and therefore have won our nomination. Wittman, Moon, Velkoff, and McIlveen won the Democratic endorsement earlier this year.

Changes in Legislative Districts Due To Redistricting

Many voters in our area will have a new state Delegate or Senator for the primary election on August 23 and the general election on November 8. These changes are a result of redistricting, which realigns the population in the legislative districts following the 2010 census.

Click here for a map of the new districts.

If you vote at any of the following locations, you will see a change in November's election.

In Fairfax, if you vote at:

Centrepointe Church at Fair Oaks (Centrepointe precinct): You will now be in Democrat Mark Keam's Delegate district. Also, if you live east of Cedar Lakes Drive, you will now be in Democrat Chap Petersen's Senate district. Those living west of Cedar Lakes Drive will still be in Democrat Dave Marsden's Senate District.

Eagle View Elementary School (Eagle View precinct) or Fairfax County Government Center (Monument precinct): You will now be in Democrat David Bulova's Delegate district. You also are moving into the Braddock supervisor district in Fairfax County, so Pat Herrity will no longer be your County Supervisor.

Fair Oaks Church Rec Center (Fair Oaks precinct): You will now be in Democrat David Bulova's Delegate district.

Greenbriar East Elementary School (Greenbriar East precinct) or Greenbriar West Elementary School (Greenbriar West precinct): You will now be in Democrat Chap Petersen's Senate district.

Willow Springs Elementary School (Willow Springs precinct): If you live north of Route 29, you will now be in Democrat David Bulova's Delegate district. If you live south of Route 29, you are still in Republican Tim Hugo's district.

In Fairfax Station, if you vote at:

Antioch Baptist Church (Fairfax Station precinct): If you live north of Chapel Road, you will now be in Democrat Dave Marsden's Senate district. If you live south of Chapel Road, you are still in Democrat George Barker's Senate district.

Living Savior Lutheran Church (Popes Head precinct): If you live east of the Fairfax County Parkway, you will now be in Democrat Chap Petersen's Senate district. If you live west of the Parkway, you are still in Democrat Dave Marsden's district.

Virginia Korean Baptist Church (Woodyard precinct): If you live west of Route 123, you will be in Republican Tim Hugo's Delegate district. If you live east of Route 123, you will be in Republican Dave Albo's district.

In Springfield, if you vote at:

Orange Hunt Elementary School (Orange precinct) or Sangster Elementary School (Sangster precinct): You will now be in Republican Dave Albo's Delegate district.

South Run REC Center (South Run precinct): You will now be in Democrat George Barker's Senate district.

Irving Middle School (Irving precinct): You will now be in Democrat Dick Saslaw's Senate district.

Hunt Valley Elementary School (Hunt precinct): You have moved into the Springfield supervisor district of Fairfax County! In addition, a small sliver of you living right near Hunt Valley Elementary will now be in Democrat Dave Marsden's Senate district.

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church (Pohick precinct): If you live east of Huntsman Blvd, you will now be in Republican Dave Albo's Delegate district. Those who live west of Huntsman will still be in Democrat Eileen Filler-Corn's district.

If you live in Springfield District and your polling location is not listed above, you do not have changes in your state legislative representatives.

John Wittman for School Board

John Wittman, who is running for the Springfield District seat on the Fairfax County School Board, received the endorsement of the Fairfax County Democrats on May 24.

John has been involved with budgeting, contracting, purchasing and technical management for 35 years, and would bring extensive expertise to the Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) budgets and contracts.

John has served on the Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee to the FCPS School Board for the past 5 years, and was recently elected Vice Chair. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia.

John Wittman will be on the ballot for School Board in the general election on November 8, 2011.

Talk to Your Neighbors at Their Doors!

Face-to-face conversations are the BEST way to reach voters and understand their concerns. It also can be fun to talk with other people who share your views and to learn about their concerns! We provide training, a script, flyers for the candidates, and a list of people for you to talk to (with a map). If you’re a first-timer, we can also match you up with a more experienced person to walk with. You provide the comfortable shoes, sunscreen, 2-3 hours of your time, and energy!

Talk to Your Neighbors on the Phone!

If you aren’t able to join us to knock on our neighbors’ doors, consider making phone calls to voters in your neighborhood! We provide the list of people to call and a script.
